The Chula Vista City Council is considering an updated outdoor dining ordinance proposed by Mayor John McCann. On behalf of DoorDash and the small businesses and entrepreneurs we partner with across California, I support this ordinance and respectfully urge the council to pass it.
Policies like this create the conditions for thriving downtowns, Main Streets, and local economies. As a company that advocates for small business owners, we know firsthand the impact this policy would have. By making it simpler and more affordable for restaurants and cafés across the city to maintain outdoor dining, the ordinance would let more operators add tables, serve more customers, and contribute to the economic vitality that Mayor McCann has made the focus of this effort.
DoorDash partners with thousands of independently owned restaurants and small business merchants throughout California, and we see every day what it takes for them to run and grow their businesses.
We welcome the opportunity to share insights from our work with small businesses across the state, including through our Unlocking Main Street initiative. The cost and complexity of expanding seating can hold a small business back, and reducing those barriers can make a meaningful difference.
Mayor McCann has demonstrated his commitment to Chula Vista businesses through his leadership on this issue, and we hope his fellow council members will join him in supporting the ordinance to help Chula Vista’s restaurants and cafés grow on Main Street.
