CVPD unveils LIVE911 Campus Alert

On June 24, the Chula Vista Police Department held a demonstration of how Campus Alert shortens response times to Chula Vista school emergencies. The demonstration was provided to School Resource officers and dispatchers.

The CVPD became the first agency in the nation to livestream 911 emergency calls directly to officers in the field in 2020. This new technology, Live911 provides a head start to officers monitoring 911 calls by eliminating dispatching delays reducing response times. Campus Alert is a function within Live911 that places higher priority on emergency calls generated from school campuses, whether it is from a landline or cell phone. Even officers with the LIVE911 program on mute, or the school is outside the officer’s patrol area, Campus Alert automatically streams calls to the officers alerting them of a potential emergency on a school campus.

Officers can hear the caller’s actual words and voice providing the sense of urgency, small details that may not be otherwise provided, and immediate updates on the situation and location. Officers also see the caller’s location on a map.
