Crusaders are off to 2-0 start in Metro-Mesa League boys hoops play

Mater Dei Catholic jumped out to a 2-0 lead among Metro-Mesa League boys basketball teams after defeating host Olympian, 74-38, last Friday. The Crusaders previously tipped off league play with a 45-33 win over visiting Otay Ranch on Jan. 20.

Three sophomores figured at the top of the score sheet for Mater Dei Catholic in last Friday’s victory. Cameron Smith led the winners with 17 points, followed by Trey Anderson with 16 points and Miles Norris with 14 points.

Norris also led the Crusaders (12-7 overall) with 12 rebounds, four steals and five blocks.

Anderson (13.2 points per game) and Norris (13.1 points per game) appear to be in a healthy competition among teammates for the team scoring lead. Norris is also averaging 9.3 rebounds per game.

Mater Dei Catholic hosts Eastlake (0-2 in league, 7-13 overall) in a key league game on Friday. Tip off is 6 p.m.
The teams shared last year’s Mesa League title.

Bonita Vista tipped off league play with a 54-51 win at Eastlake on Jan. 20. The Barons improved to 10-7 on the season with the rivalry game victory.

Otay Ranch (7-13 overall) handed Eastlake its second league setback in as many games after administering a 57-38 defeat on the visiting Titans last Friday.
