City is ready for another bright night

The night sky at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center will be lit up for the nation’s 241 Independence Day.

For the second consecutive year, Local Media San Diego has partnered with the city of Chula Vista for a Fourth of July fireworks show at 2800 Olympic Parkway in eastern Chula Vista.

Chula Vista 4th Fest will have food trucks and plenty of fireworks.

“It’s just a great community builder and a great way to honor our nation,” said Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas.

The Chula Vista  4th Fest  fireworks will be set off from the athlete training grounds at 9 p.m. with simultaneous music from participating stations.

“It will be a spectacular fireworks show with music and a customized soundtrack you can hear on 91X, Magic 92.5 and Z90,” said Josh Hammond, director of promotions with Local Media San Diego.

Mountain Hawk Park, 1475 Lake Crest Drive, is an alternate area to view fireworks.

After an eight year hiatus, fireworks  came back to Chula Vista last year, continuing an annual longstanding tradition before the economic downturn in 2008 that forced the city to drastically cut employees and diminished the city’s reserve funds ended the holiday celebration.

Get there early because only  5,000 people will be allowed onto the grounds.

Parking in the visitor’s entrance will cost $10, cash only, per auto.

The entire event will cost approximately $40,000.
