Chula Vista police ready to spread holiday cheer

The annual Holiday Meal Giveaway put on by the Chula Vista Police Foundation is partnering with the Athletes for Education and Walmart. The holiday meal and toy giveaway will take place Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Walmart located at 1150 Broadway in Chula Vista.

Retired NFL players, Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy, Chula Vista Police Department staff, retired and professional mixed martial arts athletes from Alliance MMA-Chula Vista will be giving away meals and toys. Santa and his sleigh will make an appearance.

Anyone who wants to drop off toys — unwrapped and new — for a variety of ages can do so at the Chula Vista Police Department in the front lobby by 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.
The CVPD is located at 315 Fourth Ave.

“We have collected a number of sports items like soccer balls and footballs, board games like Sorry and Operation, puzzles and stuffed animals,” said Angela Gaines, police community relations specialist.

“Among the groups donating toys are the South Bay Cruisers Car Club Inc.

“We’ll be spreading good will and cheer,” said Gaines. “We’re grateful to the public as well as our community partners for making this happen.”
Families in need will receive any excess toys that will be dropped off by the CVPD officers while on patrol.

The Alliance MMA gym is a mixed martial arts facility made up of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, World Extreme Cagefighting, Strikeforce and Bellator.
