Chula Vista is where the Corazon is

Carla Burruel and Tina Medina are the founders of Corazon Chula Vista.

Corazón Chula Vista, a for-profit organization, states their mission is to seek, elevate and inspire the Chula Vista community. Founders of the civic-minded group want to cultivate community through experiences that celebrate Chula Vista’s legacy and plant seeds for the future.

Tina Medina and Carla Burruel, are the co-founders of Corazón Chula Vista which they established in February 2019.

“We’ve known each other for over a decade but it was on our weekly walks around CV Golf Course and Rohr Park where we discovered our shared love of community and unique experiences,” Medina said.

“Corazón Chula Vista was born of our mutual understanding that community is more than where your home is. Community is where you plant your roots, where you celebrate and where you discover your true self.”

Their civic pride will be carried out by organizing events that benefit local businesses and enrich the lives of residents.

Two such events, 2019 Market in the Park, taking place in historic Memorial Park, will be held June 30 and July 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The June 30th event will offer up a different headliner than the July 14.

“Our headliner will be Santana pa Ti Live, featuring community yoga with Kula Yoga, DJ

Don Ramon featuring dub reggae, drum circle by the Chula Vista Learning Community Charter,” Medina said. “The July 14th headliner will be the Manny Cepeda Orchestra.”
“This is our first time at Market in the Park,” said Cepeda. “We’ll be performing salsa, merengue, cumbia, bachata, and Cuban music.”

Cepeda has been nominated for Latin Grammys multiple times. Cepeda is the force behind  “Salsa Under the Stars” with dancing and music at The Headquarters at Seaport District.
Vendors for the events are Angry Pete’s Pizza, Azul Cielo Wellness, Cali Baja Life, Heartwork Coffee, The Movement, Santa Aroma, and Churros X Chocolate to name a few.
Another event they helped publicize, along with La Chula Crew, and Love Thy Neighbor Movement, sought donations for the Prison Arts Programs.

Additionally, they have pulled in entrepreneurs such as the founder of Abuela’s Kitchen to emcee at free events such as the Music & Market in the Park, also held at the Memorial Park downtown.

Their July 14 event will also spotlight Succulently Designed Gardens.
The myriad of activities they have a hand in, can also extend to encouraging amateur musicians and bands to participate in the Battle of the Bands to be held on July 7.

Future events they are coordinating may be found on their Facebook page Corazón Chula Vista.
