Chula Vista hosts active shooter response forum

The City of Chula Vista is hosting an Active Shooter Preparedness and Response presentation on Monday, Dec. 4 in an ongoing effort to keep residents face. In the past, the city has hosted several active shooter presentations which included a “Stop the Bleed” training component. This event is open to the public and is presented by Chula Vista’s Community Emergency Response Team, a division of the Chula Vista Fire Department, and the Chula Vista Police Department.

At this event, participants learn how to prepare for an active shooter situation.

“An active shooter is an individual engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; and in most cases, active shooters use firearm(s). Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop an active shooting. Because active shooter situations often end within 10 to 15 minutes, before law enforcement arrives on the scene, individuals must be prepared to deal with the situation,” stated city officials in a press release.

Participants will also learn how to help others after an active shooter situation. In many cases, victims need someone to help stop the bleed and that person might be you. Learn how to control or stop the bleeding until help arrives. A certificate will be given to those who participate in the stop the bleed portion.

Registration is required for this event with a maximum attendance of 175. Go to www.chulavistaca.gov/cert to register for the 2.5-hour class. While open to the public, some of the presentation may be too graphic for those under the age of 12.
