Carrying the Jaguar spirit into 2026

As we near the end of another year at Southwestern College, I find myself reflecting with deep gratitude on the people who give this institution its heart: our students, our employees, our community, and especially our alumni.

Throughout the year, I’ve had the privilege of meeting graduates who credit Southwestern College with opening doors, sparking purpose, and instilling the confidence that carried them into the careers and communities they now lead. Their stories remind us that a college is far more than buildings and programs. Rather, it’s a launchpad, a place where potential is seen and nurtured.

Our alumni show us every day what it means to give back. Some return as mentors, guiding the next generation of Jaguars. Others create internship opportunities, support Foundation scholarships, or share their expertise at campus events. Many lead in our community such as former Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas or Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy, whom our Foundation honored last month for her extraordinary service. And many alumni contribute in quieter yet equally meaningful ways: offering encouragement, making introductions, or reminding current students that they, too, once stood in the same place and succeeded. Every gesture matters. Every connection strengthens us.

This holiday season, I’m delighted to invite alumni and friends to our Alumni Holiday Soirée on December 11 at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza at Seven Mile Casino. It’s a chance to reconnect, celebrate the year’s accomplishments, and honor the pride we share in Southwestern College. Events like these remind us that our Jaguar community extends far beyond commencement day. Tickets for the event are available through our Alumni Association.

The close of the year also marks the launch of our End-of-Year Giving Campaign, a vital effort that supports scholarships and essential student resources through SWC Cares. For many of our students, one scholarship can make the difference between moving forward in their education or putting their dreams on hold. Food insecurity should not be a barrier to education and we welcome your support. Every contribution, large or small, helps ensure students have access to opportunity and a pathway to a brighter future.

As this season of generosity begins, I invite our alumni and community partners to engage with us in whatever way feels meaningful whether that be contributing to the giving campaign, volunteering your time, offering an internship, or joining us at the Soirée. Your involvement leaves a lasting mark on our students and our college.

As 2026 approaches, I am inspired by the ambition I see across our campus and encouraged by the continued achievements of our alumni.

On behalf of our students, faculty, and staff, I wish you a joyful holiday season filled with peace, connection, and renewed purpose.

To our alumni: thank you for carrying Southwestern College with you wherever you go. Your success is our story, and your generosity ensures that many more chapters are yet to be written.

Happy holidays, and thank you for being part of the Jaguar family.
