Bonita Valley 12U softball team scores C-state championship title

courtesy photo The Bonita Valley USA Softball League 12U Bronze-Phillips team rallied in inspirational fashion to capture this year’s state championship title in competition June 28-30 in Lancaster.

The Bonita Valley Girls USA Softball League qualified seven teams for this year’s state championship tournament. The early results are in: the league’s 12U Bronze-Phillips team captured the C-state title.

The Bonita Valley team opened the tournament with wins over Mission Viejo (8-6), Crescenta Valley (9-2) and Beach Softball (14-3) but lost its fourth game of the tournament, 3-1, to Fillmore.

The loss dropped the Bonita Valley team to the challenger bracket and the team battled back with three consecutive wins — Temple City (10-7), San Dieguito (9-2) and Menifee (8-3) — to draw a rematch with Fillmore in the championship game.

Continuing its inspired run, the Bonita Valley team defeated Fillmore twice in the double-elimination tournament to capture the state championship in its division.

Bonita Valley handed Fillmore back-to-back defeats by run-rule margins, winning by scores of 12-4 and 15-6.

The team’s playing roster includes Alyssa Pagdilao, Ariele Torres, Danica Aboytes, Isabella Soto, Jaelene Grace Jenkins, Jaelyn Richel Miller, Kailynn Robeson, Kaylin Phillips, Kazandra Diaz, Kylah Wax, Madison Jones, Ryan Pham and Tatyana Mosqueda.

Josh Phillips serves as team manager with coaches Victor Torres, Miguel Diaz, Josh Robeson, Andrea Jones, Rick Miller and Rich Pagdilao.

Brooke Decosta serves as team mom.

The B-state championships took place this past weekend. Though there were no Bonita Valley champions, the 14U Gold Estrada team placed second and the 12U Gold Acosta team placed third to qualify for the upcoming national tournament.

Additionally, 8U Gold Baca placed ninth while the 10U Gold Diego-Superales placed 17th. The latter team has been invited to nationals while the former team is waiting for a spot to open up in nationals for an invitation.
