Third Avenue’s Chula Vista Brewery on Wednesday hosted a TV crew from the Food Network Television Channel featuring a culinary creation, Chef Joe’s albondiga (meatball) chipotle sub, served by the Corazon de Torta Food Truck. The footage will run on the channel’s show “The Best Thing I Ever Ate.”

“Celebrity chefs explain the best thing they ever ate. We were nominated by celebrity chef Claudia Sandoval,” said co-partner of the food truck, Antonio “Tony” Ley.
Celebrity chefs nominate a food creation they would buy on their dime and their own time to be featured on the show.

“Somebody recommended him,” said co-partner Ley on how he hired Chef Joe to help create menu items. Ley is partners with Charlie Hernandez.

“We were the first food truck to partner with a brewery,” said Ley.
Jose Rodrigo Figueroa Sanchez, better known as Chef Joe, operates a food truck called La Carmelita in Tijuana. The truck is named after his grandmother.

La Carmelita is part of culinary tours to Tijuana that include visits to other famous chefs’ restaurants such as chef Javier Plascenia and chef Diego Hernandez. La Carmelita food truck is typically located in Tijuana’s Telefonica Gastro Park.

Corazon de Torta’s menu includes other Chef Joe creations such as a cauliflower mole taco and a braised short rib taco.

“It’s a cross between a classic American meatball sub and the traditional meatball with chipotle sauce,” said Chef Joe of his sub.

The date the segment will be aired was unavailable at press time.
