The wins — 21 of them — keep piling up for the top-ranked Bonita Vista Barons. Where they eventually lead the team is an exciting prospect.
The Barons — unbeatable thus far into the season — captured their third tournament title by racking up three wins in a span of two days last weekend. Bonita Vista defeated, in order, Rancho Buena Vista (14-6 on April 7), Rancho Bernardo (9-2 on April 9) and Carlsbad (8-5, also on April 9) to sew up the Torrey Pines Falcon Fiesta.
The Barons previously captured championship titles in both the Escondido Cougar Classic and Hilltop tournament.
BVHS delivered an offensive punch to record its latest KO.
Kayla Jordan hit two home runs, including a grand slam, to collect seven RBI in the win over RBV. Ruby Elliott also homered to finish the game with two RBI.
The Barons had to win two games in last Saturday’s finals. Jaycee Carlson drove in three runs and Anissa Pinedo collected a pair of RBI to key the victory over RB. Carlson smacked a triple in the contest.
Jennifer Hartman, who picked up the win against RBV, combined with freshman Alex Vargas on a five-hitter to subdue the Broncos.
That left the Carlsbad Lancers as the only team standing between Bonita Vista and the tournament title. The Barons found themselves down by scores of 3-0 and 5-4 but rallied with four runs in the top of the sixth inning to score the come-from-behind win.
Jordan and Carlson each tripled in the game while Hartman pitched a complete game five-hitter, striking out four batters.
The Barons out-hit the Lancers 11-5.
Carlsbad and Bonita Vista got together in a non-tournament game on Tuesday and the result was the same — a Baron victory — though by differing means. Bonita Vista rolled across six runs in the bottom of the first inning and led 7-3 through two innings.
Jordan hit one home run and collected two RBI while Elliott smacked two triples, collecting two RBI. Hartman scattered eight hits while striking out five batters to post the win in the pitching circle.
The four wins raised Hartman’s record to 15-0 with a 1.35 ERA.
Jordan moved into the team lead with 32 RBI after her offensive exploits in the four most recent victories, leading Celina Cosio (30 RBI) and Elliott (22 RBI).
Bonita Vista has 10 league games remaining on its schedule, plus a non-league encounter against Valhalla.
