Man guilty in death of strangled female

A Los Angeles man pleaded guilty Oct. 16 to voluntary manslaughter in the strangulation of his girlfriend who died in her own apartment in Paradise Hills.

An 11-year state prison term is the agreed upon sentence for Martin Anthony Huey, 22, in the April 14 death of Angelica Gregory, 22, said Deputy District Attorney Ted Minahan.

A murder charge was dismissed by San Diego Superior Court Judge Robert O’Neill, who set sentencing for Nov. 25. Huey remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility without bail.

Huey signed court documents and agreed with what his attorney, Monrow Mabon, wrote in describing the crime. “I committed the unlawful killing of a human being without malice but upon a sudden quarrel,” the document stated.
Minahan said Huey strangled the victim in a chokehold or a “carotid restraint” with his hands. He said there was no weapon like a gun or knife involved.
