The Chula Vista Elementary School District and is now accepting applications for its Surplus Property Advisory Committee, also known as the 7-11 Committee.
The committee is established in accordance with Education Code sections 17388 and 17389 to advise the Board of Education on whether district-owned real property should be declared surplus.
The 7-11 committee will consist of seven to 11 volunteers representing a cross section of the community. Members are expected to include residents reflecting the district’s ethnic and socioeconomic diversity, business community members, land owners or renters — preferably from neighborhood associations — teachers, administrators, parents, or of current students and individuals with expertise in real estate, legal, environmental, or construction matters.
Committee members will serve on a voluntary basis. Meetings will be open to the public and subject to the Brown Act.
The committee’s responsibilities include evaluating district property, gathering community input, establishing a priority list of potential issues and presenting formal recommendations to the Board of Education during a public meeting.
