Bar patron guilty of manslaughter

A man who shot and killed a Chula Vista man at a bar in 2006 will get an 18-year prison term, said the prosecutor Friday after he pleaded guilty.

Deputy District Attorney Victor Ou said Guillermo Gonzalez-Nunez, now 44, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Willie Clark, Jr., 54, who was shot numerous times at the La Vuelta bar, which no longer is in business.

There was some type of disagreement at the bar located at 768 Hollister Street near Palm Avenue in the Palm City area on April 3, 2006. The bar closed and the building is not there any longer. A new building with a self storage facility now operates there.

Ou said Gonzalez-Nunez also pleaded guilty to using a gun in a homicide and assault with a deadly weapon in which Alberto Alvarez was pistol whipped in the bar.

“He will get 18 years,” said Ou.

Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Theodore Weathers set sentencing for Oct. 11. Gonzalez-Nunez remains in jail without bail. Murder and attempted murder charges were dismissed.
Ou said the sentence will include a 10-year term for using a gun, six years for manslaughter, plus two years for assault upon the other man. He pleaded guilty Aug. 1 just as his case was about to be assigned to courtroom for trial.
Gonzalez-Nunez fled the country at the time, but Mexican authorities arrested him in Mexico in 2016. He was delivered to U.S. Marshals from Mexican authorities on May 27, 2016.

Several witnesses at the bar testified in a preliminary hearing in Feb., 2017. Detectives also testified and he was ordered to stand trial for murder and attempted murder.
