All-Star summer continues in California District 42

California District 42 Little League has commenced play in the 10U, 11U and 12U all-star brackets as sectional play in the Intermediate, Junior and Senior divisions wraps up. Baseball is being joined by softball locally as District 42 South Bay Little League hosts the 11U and 12U-D Southern California state championship tournament.

Eastlake Little League’s Intermediate Division (50/70) district championship team ended its all-star run with an 11-9 loss to District 41 champion Rancho de Oro in Tuesday’;’s Caifornia Section 7 championship game. Eastlake needed to win to force a best-of-three double-elimination game and appeared on its way with an early 9-2 lead. But the District 42 champions couldn’t maintain it.

Rancho de Oro opened the championship series with an 8-2 win over Eastlake on Monday.

Imperial Beach’s District 42 Junior Division championship team also suffered a setback on Tuesday with a 15-3 loss to District 66 champion Spring Valley. Imperial Beach opened the four-team tourney with a 12-3 win over District 41 champion Singing Hills on

District 22 champion Imperial will now face Spring Valley in the Section 7 championship game on Saturday but fell, 6-5, to District 22 champion Imperial on Sunday to drop to the challenger bracket. Tuesday’s loss eliminated the District 42 champions. Instead, Spring Valley will face Imperial in Thursday’s championship game.

Spring Valley eliminated Singing Hills, 6-5, on Sunday. Imperial edged Spring Valley, 6-5, in the teams’ opener on Saturday.

District 42 Senior Division champion Park View walloped its opening two opponents in Section 7 play: 15-0 over District 41 champion Jamul on Sarturday and 12-1 over District 66 champion Spring Valley on Sunday to advance to Wednesday’s championship game against Spring Valley, which eliminated Jamul with a 19-3 victory in Monday’s challenger bracket final.

If a double-elimination game is necessary, it would be played on Friday.

District 66 Spring Valley Little League hosted both the Section 7 Junior and Senior tournaments.

District 42 South Bay Little League is hosting this year’s 11U and 12U-D Southern California state championships with teams from District 17 (San Marino National), District 18 (East Alhambra), District 20 (Pomona American), District 22 (Calexico), District 24 (Reid Park), District 25 (Culver City), District 42 (South Bay), District 49 (Sunset Community), District 51 (West Lancaster), District 66 (Lemon Grove) and District 71 (Fontana Elks).

The 11U tournament runs through July 5 at Max Field while the 12-D tournament runs through July 9 at the same site.

11U bracket scores (opening round):

South Bay next plays Wednesday against Reid Park. The winner advances to the winners bracket semifinal on July 4, followed by the championship game on July 5.

Lemon Grove advances to play Sunset Community in second-round play also on Wednesday. The tournament schedule is compact with three games scheduled on July 4, the final on July 5 and the if-necessary game on July 6.

The 12U-D schedule runs July 7-9. South Bay plays Calexico in its opener and East Alhambra on July 8 and Pomona American on July 9 to complete pool play. Bracket play from the four pools, starts July 11 in San Bernardino and is equally quick with four games on Julky 11 and three games (semifinals and final) on July 12.

The 10U softball SoCal tournament at Carl Nielsen Park in Los Angeles, is June 29 to July 12. Lemon Grove and South Bay are both entered. South Bay opened with a match-up against La Serna (D24) on June 29 while Lemon Grove is slated to meet Hesperia American (D49) on Thursday, July 2, and plays Calexuci D22) on Monday, July 6. South Bay takes the field for a second time against Quartz Hill (D51) on Tuesday, July 7.

The 10-team Junior League softball tournament is scheduled July 5-14 at Kessler Park in Bloomington. South Bay opens against Banning Pass (D58) on Monday, July 6, while Lemon Grove meets West End (D43) also on Monday.

The nine-team Senior Division tournament is scheduled July 9-15 in Hemet. Las Palmas opens against Tri-Valley (D58).
