Chula Vista library takes on role of matchmaker

Finding your next favorite book just got a lot easier in Chula Vista. The city’s public library has rolled out Book Match, a free, personalized reading service for anyone with a library card. Whether you’re a lifelong bookworm or just starting to explore the world of reading, Book Match promises a curated list of titles tailored just for you.

The program is available at all three Chula Vista library locations — Civic Center, South Chula Vista, and Otay Ranch Town Center. Participants fill out a short online survey sharing their reading interests, favorite genres, authors, or topics. From there, library staff put together a list of books that match your tastes.

“One of our goals as a library is to encourage a love of reading,” said Mara Cabrera, senior librarian. “With our new Book Match program, we hope to help everyone, whether they’re seasoned readers or just getting started, discover books they’ll truly enjoy.”

Book Match isn’t just about making recommendations; it’s about making reading easy and convenient. If a title you’re curious about isn’t in the library’s collection, the program links seamlessly with Zip Books, which delivers books straight to your door via Amazon Prime at no cost. After you’ve read them, you can return the items to any library branch.

Library staff say Book Match is perfect for busy parents, students, or anyone who wants a curated reading experience without spending hours wandering the shelves.

“Libraries are more than just a place for books,” Cabrera said. “They’re a gateway to knowledge, entertainment, and connection. Programs like Book Match help bridge the gap between readers and the materials that can inspire them.”

The program is designed to be flexible, making it easy for readers to explore new genres, revisit old favorites, or discover books they might never have picked up on their own. It’s available year-round, so no matter when inspiration strikes, library cardholders can jump in and start discovering.

Book Match is part of a broader effort by the Chula Vista Public Library to connect the community with its full range of resources — from digital services to educational programs and events. By combining thoughtful recommendations with modern conveniences like Zip Books, the library is helping make reading more personal, more accessible, and a little more fun for everyone.

For anyone curious to try Book Match, all you need is a library card. You can sign up at any branch or find more information online at chulavistaca.gov.

With Book Match, the Chula Vista Library isn’t just helping people find books — it’s helping people find books that feel like they were meant for them.
