It was a great junior class showing for the Metro Conference at last Saturday’s Mt. Carmel Movin’ Shoes Invitational at Morley Field as Olympian High School’s Alexandra Martinez finished first in her Division I junior girls race, Southwest High School’s Jacob Fierro finished first in the Division II junior boys race and the Bonita Vista Barons secured the team title in the Division I junior boys race.

Martinez left no doubt about who the winner would be in last Saturday’s race by engineering a top time of 15:56 on the 2.75-mile course. Martinez won by a sizable margin — 38 seconds, to be exact.

Eastlake’s Leyla McFarland (17:09) finished 12th in the field of 177 runners.

Fierro, who finished first among individuals at the preceding week’s Mustang Invitational at Rohr Park, clocked a division best time of 16:11 to win by four seconds at the Mt. Carmel Invitational.

Bonita Vista was buoyed on the 2.95-mile course by juniors Ethan Lamprecht (fifth, 15:49) and Isaiah Labra (sixth, 15:51). The Barons tallied 72 points to out-distance runner-up Loyola (107 points) in the field of 257 finishers.

Otay Ranch finished fifth in the Division I senior boys race with 170 points. Cale Parise (10th, 15:52) and Jeremiah Suzara (14th, 16:02) led the Mustangs on the 2.95-mile course. Olympian’s Diego Arriola (16:06) finished 16th in the field of 260 runners.

Otay Ranch’s Justin Mulvany (16:14) finished fourth among 331 finishers in the Division I sophomore boys race.

Mariana Beltran-Picos (16:430 placed fifth among 218 runners in the 2.75-mile Division I sophomore girls race.

Eastlake’s Patricia Miessner (16:21) won the Division I freshman girls race while teammate Pia Davila (17:37) was ninth. The Lady Titans finshed second as a team.

Castle Park’s Liliana Hakim (17:28) and Southwest’s Fabiola Gonzalez (17:45) were sixth and eighth, respectively, among Division II senior girls.
