A Jan. 30 preliminary hearing has been set for Jesus Arteaga Garcia, who is charged with the 2009 murder of his pregnant wife who was fatally stabbed in front of her two young children in her Chula Vista apartment.
Arteaga, 30, formerly of National City, was arrested in Tijuana on Jan. 28, and has pleaded not guilty in Chula Vista Superior Court to killing Maribel Arteaga, 28, on Dec. 10, 2009, after she answered the door.
A second murder charge against him involves the death of the 10-week-old fetus. He is also charged with two counts of child endangerment due to the murder occurring in front of them, and with the special circumstances of multiple murders and lying in wait.
The couple was estranged at the time. She worked for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Arteaga remains in the downtown central jail in San Diego without bail.
