The week in prep sports: Mustang girls water polo team scores 18-0 win Phillip Brents | Fri, Dec 14 2012 12:43 PM

Otay Ranch defeated Chula Vista, 18-0, in a non-league game on Nov. 30 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Sarah Medina and Cailin Lechner each led the Mustangs with six goals and two assists while Nanda Arambula contributed three goals and two assists, Camy Benitez scored two goals and Gabby Nunez added a goal and assist. Goalie Emma Cornwell made 12 saves and had one assist in recording the team’s first shutout victory of the season.

Eastlake finished 2-3 in the recent Bronco Invitational with victories against San Marcos (12-3 on Dec. 6) and La Costa Canyon (9-8 on Dec. 7).

Natsumi Watanabe leads the Titans (3-4) in season scoring with 13 goals and two assists, followed by Hibah Ahmed (10 goals, five assists) and Briana Vazquez (seven goals, one assist). Haley Derrod has made 86 goalie saves.
