The Hilltop Lancers officially clinched the Metro Conference title after defeating Bonita Vista (3-1 on Oct. 25) and Chula Vista (6-0 on Monday) in their latest two games. Hilltop improved to 7-0 in league play.
Head coach Rita Delgadillo Parrish, who is currently on maternity leave, said the team benefitted “from having a tougher pre-league schedule in preparing to play our league games.”
Assistant coach Janine Dare said the team had one goal … “and that was to win banner,” she said.
“I explained to them that I will get them there if they can give the program commitment, trust and belief,” Dare said. “Having Otay and Bonita in the first week was going to set the tone for the season. Since then, the roster of 18 has never been stronger and it reflects on the field.”
The San Diego Section playoffs start Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the site of the higher-seeded team or league champion.
Otay Ranch, which qualified as an at-large team last year, defeated Chula Vista, 8-0, on Thursday to close out regular season play. The Mustangs dropped both games against league champion Hilltop this season — 2-1 and 2-0.
Update: Hilltop defeated host Eastlake, 3-0, on Thursday to finish 8-0 in league play. Otay Ranch topped Eastlake, 3-1, on Monday (Nov. 5) to close out league play.
