First off I want to THANK Mr Moreno & TheStarNews for constantly reporting on our Local Government. We count on him and this newspaper to help keep our elected officials accountable.
Frankly if it weren't for the shady ways John has conducted business we wouldn't have the need to know we have now! Whether while holding office on OUR school district or bouncing back and forth on OUR city council, John McCann has raised many concerns. Self-serving and PREJUDICIAL are two terms that describe John's Legacy he's to leave us. The one word I associate with the StarNews Article Mr Moreno wrote is INVESTIGATIVE.
How about the fact that the StarNews even published this response article was TRANSPARENT & UNBIASED or their JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY was displayed! Ms Martin should try to spend some time teaching her boss these wonderful traits along with ETHICS. We'd all benefit from this!
I find it so typical politics when we see use of this tactic! Get Caught and Scrutinize The Messenger To Shift The Spotlight Away.
Let's focus on the claims of WE THE TAX PAYERS are paying for John to further his Political Career. Other fact to further investigate is the process in place that dealt with this & other claims of this sort that may come!
Let's move on term limits ASAP. Both at SUHSD & CVCC! I'm sure John will go to SWCC & then Sweetwater Authority when this happens......

Tabloid? Star News? C'mon man. Martin, that would be the SD Reader

PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS hired to 'investigate' private citizens is not new to So. Bay politics - Sweetwaters Superintendent used such practices - and Mr. McCann was on the SUHSD Board at the time - I know AS I WAS ONE OF THOSE INVESTGATED. a senior citizen who joined others is speaking up and demanding better representation.

Now that is about as self serving as a response as I have ever read. Controversy is no stranger to Mr. McCann - and ,,,,, unless you live under a rock you, like me, have read all about THEM.

Something tells me Mr. McCann has not had to ENGRAIN anything, nada, nil in to his staff and the inference is disrespectful to those City employees.

I find it amazing that foul was called on the Star News - funny, those McCann articles that were positive show McCann grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

These are my opinions - and if I may allow me one more - I am growing tired of McCann - CV residents/property owners are deserving of political representation that does not include controversy.

Nice response Councilwoman Melissa Martin...oh wait...you are just a staffer for John? Oh Chief of Staff for a part time councilman. Lol. Why isn't the Councilman responding? That guy is scared of his own shadow. Run John run....time is running out for you.

Although it's valient (and expected I'm sure) that Ms. Martin comes to McCann's defense, she needs to understand he generates news and it swirls around him like the character on Charlie Brown who always has dirt swirling around him. Whether it was as a Sweetwater trustee who filed restraining orders against parents, threatened parents, newspapers and reporters with defamation lawsuits, accepted large campaign contributions from contractors and then selected them to work on district projects, or as City Councilman and all the news and controversy he creates. He is his own worst enemy. I commend Mr MORENO for reporting this story as it involves an elected official and we have a right to know what he is doing with his time that we pay for, and the risks he puts the City and taxpayers in with his antics!!

It's unfortunate for us CV residents that we have this man on the Council. He has a poor record as an elected official. From taking contributions from contractors then awarding them contracts, filing restraining orders against parents, threatening to sue parents and local newspapers for defamation - all as a Sweetwater trustee, then throwing a rock at a citizen, to this and more as a councilman. When will the residents of CV wake up and not elect this man.

Carlos-Thank you for your nice tribute to Tom. I was a friend and co-worker with Tom in his early days with CVPD some 45 years ago. We maintained our friendship even though we both went our separate ways in Law Enforcement. I have a picture of Tom next to my computer to remind me of the humor and good he brought in my life.

It is indeed a puzzle don't you all think? An investigation that allegedly didn't investigate. What is a taxpayer to do - maybe it is time for a new direction - one that provides leadership that doesn't come with baggage or allegations!

* as always, just my opinion

Another Republican Official with allegations. We need more democratic leadership in the South Bay Area. Also to all educators, don't forget to vote for Teacher of the Year this week!

Oh Johnny Boy....the walls are closing in on you. Ethical misconduct, bad leadership at Sweetwater and illegal debt. More to come? I would put money on it...

All the more reason for all of us who do care about where we live to hold our government accountable--locally and beyond local borders.

When those in charge have different rules and requirements for themselves and see community members as lesser individuals who can be ignored, fooled, robbed (by virtue of not giving them what tax dollars are supposed to pay for) and poisoned, we are living in a nightmare.

Don't think it can't happen here. Just try and get a response from your local council member on any issue. See what happens, and let people know.
