The San Francisco 49ers set a franchise record for most offensive yards generated in one game (621) in a 45-3 victory against the visiting Buffalo Bills on Oct. 6 as former Helix High School/Bonita Vista Middle School alum Alex Smith passed for a season-high 303 yards and three touchdowns.

Smith. the NFL's No. 1 draft pick in 2005 out of Utah, threw scoring passes of 43, 28 and 10 yards; he surpassed the 300-yard mark for only the third time in his career and the first time in a victory.

The win raised the 49ers’ record to 4-1. In five games, Smith has passed for 1,087 yards and eight touchdowns against just one interception.

San Francisco hosts the New York Giants this Sunday in a rematch of the NFC championship game. The Giants defeated the 49ers in a memorable overtime contest to advance to the Super Bowl.
