Southwestern hoop men feel the pain Phillip Brents | Fri, Feb 01 2013 02:13 PM

When Southwestern’s Hassan Farah’s first two shots fell in from three-point range, the prospects for the Jaguars’ next win seemed bright. That euphoria was temporary as the Knights of San Diego City College coasted to a 73-52 win on Wednesday.
City College coach Mitch Charlens’ big men were bigger than Southwestern’s and their small guys were faster. Southwestern managed only six buckets the first half and four the second.
Meanwhile, two Jaguars fouled out and the Knights sunk 25 of 34 free throws. City College’s biggest margin was 68-33 with 7:40 left in the game. The Knights got lax and let Southwestern close the gap.
Farah scored 16 for the Jaguars, all in the first half, while Davonte Sims added 10.
Anthony Poindexter scored 20 and Trevor English added 13 for the Knights whose record is now 13-11.
Coach John Cosentino’s Jaguars now stand at 8-12.
