Nominations solicited for inaugural Sweetwater Athletics Hall of Fame class Press Release | Mon, Jun 09 2014 03:27 PM

In 1933, athletes from the high schools in the Sweetwater Union High School District began competing in the Metro Conference, which was then comprised of eight of the county’s 15 high schools.  The Metro Conference now hosts 12 Sweetwater Union High School District schools.

Now in its 80th season of play, the district will recognize its rich history and celebrate the many fine athletes, both prep and professional, from the schools in the Sweetwater Union High School District who competed in the conference by establishing a Hall of Fame and museum to house memorabilia and to recognize its athletes — some of whom will be inducted into the Sweetwater Athletics Hall of Fame.

This year the Sweetwater Athletics Hall of Fame will announce its first class selected by members of the local media who have covered district athletics throughout its history. The class will be inducted at an annual Hall of Fame Game beginning next school year.

If members of the public have nominations, they may submit them to the committee at the following website address: www.metropolitanconference.org.

Also, the Sweetwater Athletics Hall of Fame is soliciting any memorabilia, photos, or spirit items that reflect the athletic tradition of each of its member schools. They may be donated or loaned to the hall of fame.

An open house is planned for the immediate future. Visit the website at www.metropolitanconference.org for more announcements.

Lovely. The Ed Brand Jobs for Friends Program will now be called to order, the (dis)honorable Ed Brand, presiding.

Yes, Brand's pal has been drawing a salary for about a year now, and has so far managed to write one press release.

Excellent. Our tax dollars at work.
