The Otay Ranch boys volleyball team kept first place in the Mesa League standings safely within its grasp after defeating visiting Eastlake in four games on Wednesday. The Mustangs captured the series 25-15, 21-25, 25-11, 25-23.

Otay Ranch improved to 7-0 in league play, 20-5 overall. The Titans (25-8 overall) dropped to 5-2 in league play, with both setbacks to the Mustangs.

Jorge Reyes keyed Otay Ranch with 20 kills while Nico Pizarro tacked on 12 kills. Nick Alegrado led the Mustangs with 41 assists while teammate J.J. Olaogun had 26 digs.

Otay Ranch returned to the court after a highly successful tournament stop in Nevada over spring break. The Mustangs went 7-1 in the Las Vegas Easter Invitational, winning their opening seven games before dropping a 2-1 match-up against Arizona private school power Brophy College Prep.

Otay Ranch won its opening seven match-ups at the Las Vegas tournament, sweeping Salesian, Shadow Ridge, Canyon Springs, Nevada Union, Eagle Rock, Sierra Vista and Clovis North by 2-0 scores.

Eastlake went 7-4 at the same tournament, winning their final game against Basic (Nev.).

Season leaders for the Titans include Scott Willes with 321 kills while Rae Crawford had 101 blocks, Nicolas Pandaan 31 aces and 645 assists and Jar Garcia had 304 digs.

 

Baseball
Bonita Vista remained undefeated in Mesa League play by defeating Mater Dei Catholic, 12-4, on Wednesday. The Barons (12-9) improved to 3-0 in league play. Justin DiStefano drove in four runs while Alexis Ayala had two RBI.

Eastlake (17-5 overall) improved to 2-1 in Mesa League play following its 8-0 shutout win against visiting Otay Ranch. Daniel Kopas hurled a complete game shutout while Louwi Silva (two doubles) drove in three runs.

Softball
Hilltop improved to 3-0 in Mesa League play after downing Chula Vista, 7-1, on Wednesday behind home runs by Natalia Rosales, Monica Armas and Fiana Finau.

The Lancers (13-6) previously opened league play by sweeping Otay Ranch by scores of 14-4 and 9-3. Finau collected six RBI in the two games.
