A number of South County athletes are strong contenders to qualify for this year's state track and field finals. The top three place-finishers at the section championship advance to the state meet in Clovis the first weekend in June.

At the midpoint of the 2009-2010 season, three South County athletes in individual events were positioned to make that trip.

Otay Ranch's Marques Roberts ranks first in the section (and first in the state as well) in the boys triple jump (47-5.5).

Otay Ranch's Isaac Mallett ranks third in the boys 300 intermediate hurdles (39.84).
