The sport of hockey -- ice and roller -- will take the spotlight the weekend of Feb. 15-17 as rinks across the United States celebrate Hockey Weekend Across America. The annual event is a community service event sponsored by USA Hockey and will be presented locally by PUCKidz on Sunday, Feb. 17, at Sunset View Park in Eastlake. “That weekend, rinks all over the U.S. will be offering free clinics to expand exposure to the sport,” said PUCKidz director Keith Quigley.

Several fun and interactive events are scheduled to take place at Sunset View Park (1390 South Greensview Drive). A free sneaker hockey clinic for elementary school age children will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Free equipment will be provided. A free roller hockey clinic is scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon geared for elementary and middle school age children. Some equipment will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring their own skates.

A series of hockey contests and skill challenges for elementary and middle school age children will close out the event from noon to 12:30 p.m., with prize giveaways. Featured contests include most accurate shot, fastest skater, hardest shot and puck control challenge.

In order to participate, participants will need to fill out a PUCKidz waiver on site or by visiting the website at www.PUCKidz.net. For more information, call (619) 573-7115 or email PUCKidz@gmail.com.
