High School Sports Association to honor local coaches on Monday, Feb. 4 Phillip Brents | Fri, Feb 01 2013 01:30 PM

The High School Sports Association will hold its all-star recognition night on Monday, Feb. 4, at the Seaside Room in Marina Village.  This is the 25th year of the program. Social begins at 6:15 p.m., with the program starting at 7 p.m.

Honorees from South County schools include Reldon “Bing” Dawson, assistant football coach at Olympian High School, and Montgomery High School baseball coach Manny Hermosillo. Former Hilltop High School tri-sport athlete Julie Evans-Mottershaw, now the principal at San Marcos High School, will be honored as an administrator. Hermosillo has more than 500 wins as a head coach to his credit.

Prep football signing day set Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Hall of Champions

Darren Carrington, who played in the National Football League for five different teams, including being a starter for the Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX, will be the guest speaker at the National Letter of Intent Signing Party on Wednesday, Feb. 6, starting at 8 a.m. at the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Scholar-athletes who are seniors this year and participate in football, soccer, track and cross country, boys water polo and girls field hockey plus anyone who did not sign during the early signing period in November and will be signing now are invited. The event is free to the public.
