The Eastlake High School cross country team swept its Mesa League dual meet against Mater Dei Catholic last Friday. The Titans won the boys meet by a score of 17-44 to even their league record at 1-1 while Eastlake’s girls team won 15-50 to remain undefeated in league competition with a 2-0 record.
Eastlake recorded the top seven finishers in the girls race and the top three finishers in the boys varsity race at Eastlake Community Park.
Freshman Patricia Miessner continued to excel by finishing the 2.3-mile girls race with the top time of 14:42. Junior Leyla McFarland was second in 15:26, followed by teammates Emily Bonilla (third, 15:39), Pia Davila (fourth, 15:47), Cassandra Luna (fifth, 15:49), Ruby McFarland (sixth, 16:21) and Ana Manriquez Graf (seventh, 16:28).
Mater Dei Catholic’s top finishers included senior Bridgid Healy (eighth, 16:34) and freshman Dasha Battaglia (ninth, 16:36).
Eastlake notched five of the top six times in the 5K boys varsity race, led by junior Jeffrey Page’s winning time of 16:54. Following Page across the finish line were teammates Joshua Mayo (second, 17:31) and Yutah Shiba-Joyce (third, 17:40).
Mater Dei Catholic senior Luis Humberto Cerna finished fourth in 17:44, followed by Eastlake’s Justin Carman (fifth, 17:56) and Tyler Ramirez (sixth, 17:56).
The Titans next collide with east side rival Bonita Vista Oct. 28 at Discovery Park.
Girls volleyball
Eastlake leads the Mesa League standings with a 6-0 record following Thursday’s 3-0 sweep of visitng Mater Dei Catholic. The Lady Titans have won five of their six league games by scores of 6-0.
Eastlake defeated Mater Dei Catholic 25-10, 25-17, 25-10 in its latest outing. Prior to that, the Lady Titans defeated visiting Bonita Vista in a rivalry match on Monday. Eastlake won by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-13.
The Lady Titans (14-5 overall) are currently ninth in the Division I San Diego Section power rankings.
