Second-ranked Mater Dei Catholic all but wrapped up this year’s Metro-Mesa League boys basketball title after dealing eighth-ranked Eastlake a 62-41 loss on Tuesday. Jonathan Dutra led the Crusaders (6-0 in league, 22-2 overall) with 20 points while Israel Seales added 10 points in the winning effort.

MDC, which remained undefeated in section competition, built a 30-15 lead on the Titans (3-2, 20-5). Eastlake entered the game having won 16 of its last 17 contests. Evin Shephard and Leandre Powell each had 14 points to lead the Titans.

In another Metro-Mesa League game on Tuesday, Bonita Vista upset Olympian, 61-52, behind 19 points from Sta’phon Smith. The win was the first in league play for the Barons (1-5, 7-18). The Eagles, who received 16 points from Keion Wallace, dropped to 1-5 in league, 13-12 overall.

Mater Dei Catholic stopped visiting Olympian, 55-44, on Thursday to improve to 7-0 in league play, 23-2 overall.

Eastlake defeated visiting Otay Ranch, 81-50, on Thursday to improve to 4-2 in league play as Powell led all scorers with 32 points. The Titans also received 18 points from Marcos Meza. A.J. Paranada led the Mustangs (3-3 in league,14-11 overall) with 18 points while Nikko Paranada dropped in 14 points.
