California District 42 Little League annual Tournament of Champions wraps up Phillip Brents | Wed, Jun 28 2017 03:20 PM

California District 42 Little League’s annual Tournament of Champions came to an exciting conclusion Monday at the Imperial Beach Little League complex with championships decided in the remaining three divisions.

Sweetwater Valley defeated Park View, 14-5, to win the 6U Division championship while Eastlake recorded a 12-5 come-from-behind victory against Sweetwater Valley to win the 8U Division title.

Eastlake defeated Sweetwater Valley, 4-1, in Monday’s Minor League Division championship game.

Eastlake previously  topped Chula Vista American, 18-3, to win the Major League Division title on June 20.

Eastlake Little League won three of the four TOC division championships this year while Sweetwater Valley recorded three finalists and one champion. Park View and Chula Vista American each had one finalist.

“Eastlake Little League is very proud of our coaches and managers for their success in the TOC,” Eastlake Little League President Mark Robertson said. “All of our teams worked hard and had the goal to win District 42’s TOC. District 42 has a tremendous amount of baseball talent and to win these tournaments is a great achievement.”

Sweetwater Valley took an early 3-2 lead in the 8U championship game only to watch Eastlake score 10 runs in the fourth and fifth winnings to innings to win by the final score of 12-5.

Eastlake’s 8U Division championship roster included Cody Moseman, Caleb Foss, Super Akins, Joesiah Hernandez, Levi Aguirre, Nico Gomez, William MacFarland, Myles Reyes, Aaron Arcienga, Nico Sanchez, Liam Lee, Isaac Rodriquez and Omar Perez. 

Harry Ringgold served as team manager alongside coaches Ernesto Rodriquez, Scott Nicolaus and Octavio MacFarland.

Players on the Eastlake TOC Minor League Division championship team include Joshua Alo, Scott Anderson, Adam Casanova, Noah Cook, Aaron Corona, Noah Flores, Hamza Hatahet, Taylor Jenkins, Armando Mendivil-Becerrill, Luca Penteriani, Jake Robertson, Jake Serrano and Alexander Waisbord.

Tom Alo managed the team alongside coaches Sam Waisbord and George Flores.

Sweetwater Valley’s 6U championship roster included the following players: Adrian Aguilar, Javier Barraza, Dominic Guerra, Dominic Rojas, Eric Martinez, Wyatt Arnce, Levi Ruperto, Eli Castro, Jayden Blondin, Mark Anthony Johnson, Peyton Bravence, Emiliano Fonseca and Jaime Del Rio.

Rick Rojas served as manager, with Adrian Aguilar, Chris Arnce and Chris Bravence serving as assistant coaches.

Eastlake Little League spirited away three of the four TOC division championships this year while Sweetwater Valley recorded three finalists and one champion. Park View and Chula Vista American each had one finalist.

The Eastlake Little League Yankees captured the 2017 California District 42 Little League Tournament of Champions Major League Division title by defeating Chula Vista American Little League Cubs at the Eastlake Little League complex.

Dereck Borruel hit a grand slam to account for four runs for Eastlake while Daniel Mora pitched a complete game victory.

The Yankees won all three of their games in the single-elimination bracket. 

Besides Borruel and Mora, the championship Eastlake roster also included Chase Taylor, Tommy Del Villar, Adrian Flores, James Cummings, Nate Torres, Ryan Duarte, Jake Castillo, Nolan Castillo and Adrian Lopez.

Alex Razo did not participate in the tournament but attended all regular season games.

George Flores served as team manager with coaches J.J. Cummings, Matt Taylor and Richie Mora.

Chula Vista American defeated South Bay and Imperial Beach to advance to the division final.
