The Bonita Vista boys lacrosse team got off to a slow start in its game Wednesday against visiting Mar Vista, holding onto a narrow 2-1 lead through the opening quarter of play.

But once the game went further along, so came more goals for the Barons -- enough to add up to an 8-4 victory and a meteoric 7-2 start to the season.

Can this year's BVHS squad challenge for the Metro Conference title?  The Barons will find out when they travel to Eastlake on Monday (April 8) for an important showdown with the preseason favorite Titans.

Eastlake, which is also 4-0 in league play, is 8-2 overall.

Robert Rodriguez paced Bonita Vista to its second consecutive win by scoring four goals. Wesley Walters and Jason Bergardo each contributed a goal and assist while Matt Pineda and Salomon Gonzalez each scored one goal and Paul Diaz tacked on one assist.

Previously, on Monday, the Barons opened the week with a 12-4 victory at Montgomery.

Bergado scored four goals, Rodriguez had three goals, Andrew Ooi scored twice, Diaz had five assists and Dongo had 11 saves for the Barons.
