Bonita Buccaneers highlight 12-0 season with Q-Bowl championship title Staff Report | Fri, Dec 06 2013 02:03 PM

The Bonita Buccaneers capped an undefeated season by defeating the Otay Ranch Broncos, 30-6, in an all-South County match-up in the San Diego Youth Football & Cheer Conference Jr. Pee Wee championship game Nov. 23 at Balboa Stadium.

The game was part of this year’s five divisional Q-Bowl championship finals.

The Buccaneers raised their record to 12-0 with the win over the Broncos; the Broncos had carried a 9-1 record into the title game.

Tailback Alonso Ramirez led the Bucs with three touchdowns in the game. He rushed for 188 yards on 18 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. He also had one reception for 10 yards and a touchdown.

Tailback Ethan Knight had 58 rushing yards on 14 carries and scored one rushing touchdown while quarterback Diego Posada chipped in with six rushing yards and one passing touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, outside linebacker Justin Locke had six tackles, six assists and one forced fumble while inside linebacker Christian Aguilar had five Tackles, four assists and one tackle for a safety. Inside linebacker Gabriel Acosta also contributed six tackles and two assists.

The Bonita defense held the Bronco offense to 71 yards and one touchdown. The defensive effort by the Bucs was impressive in that the Otay Ranch offense had been averaging 40 points a game and had gone undefeated after an earlier loss — 27-20 — to the Bonita team.

Defensive notes
Knight, also playing at safety, contributed touchdown-saving tackles all year, according to the team’s coaching staff, while defensive ends C.J. Devault and Jesse Hernandez anchored the team’s defensive line.

Outside linebacker Gavin Villasenor stopped reverses and counters to his side throughout the Q-Bowl championship game.

South County pride
Four South County teams were involved in this year’s Q-Bowl divisional championships, with two matching up in one of the title games.

The Otay Ranch Broncos Blue team advanced to meet the El Cajon Falcons Black team in the Mitey Mite final while the Otay Ranch Broncos White team advanced to meet the Los Toros Bulls in the Midget final.

Other finals pairings included Los Toros Black against Los Toros Red in the Pee Wee championship game (played Nov. 20 at Olympian High School) and the Mira Mesa Chargers against the Bulls in the Jr. Midget final.
