Tuning in to Jessica

The city of Chula Vista is in full support of American Idol contestant Jessica Sanchez.

The 16-year-old Chula Vista resident is the youngest idol contestant left of four women and two men.

With signs, banners and marquees at it’s library, police and fire stations and schools, the city is showing its praise for the hometown girl who has made it to the top 6 finalists on the national television show’s eleventh season.

Viewing and voting parties began last week to support Jessica at bar and restaurants around town including The Brew House and Oggi’s, both in Eastlake.

This Wednesday, Eastlake Tavern and Bowl has joined in the fun. Jagger and Kristi from Magic 92.5 will host a viewing and voting party from 6 to 10 p.m. In addition, the Eastlake Middle School Choir, of which Jessica was a member a few years ago, will perform at 7:15 p.m.

Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox is expected to drop by.

Specially-designed T-shirts will be sold and an opportunity drawing will be held during the event. Jagger and Kristi will raffle off Disneyland tickets in support of Jessica and will also give away free movie passes.

Eastlake Tavern and Bowl will donate part of its proceeds from bowling lanes to support future events and activities to promote Jessica.

Meanwhile at Oggi’s from 7 to 10 p.m., Little Tommy From KYXY, 96.5 will host another party for the contestant.

But of all the parties, perhaps the biggest will be held Wednesday at Seau’s restaurant in Mission Valley, where Geena the Latina and Sonic of Channel 93.3 will host the event.

Several of Jessica’s extended family members are expected to attend the event, according to her aunt.
