Swiss Park opens for the community

For more than 50 years, the Swiss Park venue at Chula Vista’s Bayfront has been part of the community, hosting everything from weddings to civic events. This weekend, the park will take on a new role as the gateway to two local landmarks – the Otay Valley Regional Park and the Bayshore Bikeway.

On Saturday at 10 a.m., it will host the grand opening of a new staging area that will connect Chula Vistans and South Bay residents to a rich network of trails and pathways where they can exercise, enjoy the scenery around San Diego Bay or just go out for a stroll.

The Swiss Park staging area is the result of a partnership between the County of San Diego and Swiss Club, which operates the venue.

The Club provided the land for the staging area and agreed to maintain it, and in return the County was able to improve the parking lot at Swiss Park.

The result will be a great new amenity for residents in our region.

The staging area has parking, with accommodations for the disabled, and a bicycle rack.
More importantly, this staging entry opens up a world of recreational opportunities. It will be a much needed place for people to meet, park and access trail systems.

From this staging area, you can walk right onto the Swiss Trail, a quarter-mile trail that will connect you to the Otay Valley Regional Park system and its miles of multi-use trails.

The nationally-recognized Bikeway is also just a few spins of the wheel from the staging area.

The Bayshore Bikeway has been named one of the best bike paths in the country and Sunset Magazine last year ranked it as one of the best in the West. It’s right in our backyard and now you can put your bike on a rack, drive to the Swiss Park staging area and discover it for yourself.

I hope you will join us at Swiss Park Saturday and discover a great new addition to our community.
