They called it “basketball,” but Southwestern’s 85-80 victory Friday against Pasadena more closely resembled a mixed martial arts fight much of the time. Officials whistled 50 fouls — 25 against each team — including a double technical for two players who wouldn’t stop “chipping and lipping” with one another.
Southwestern led 40-36 at halftime. Coach John Cosentino’s Jaguars were able to break Pasadena’s relentless full court press much of the time. Jay Stone led Southwestern with 25 points while Dominique Miller added 13 off the bench. Pasadena’s Mike Swanegan led the Lancers with 17 points.
Southwestern’s next home game is Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. against Miramar. The lady Jaguars play at 5 p.m. in the preliminary game.
