Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente lost an early lead at home but managed to secure a draw against UANL Tigres, which gives the team their first point of the 2014-15 season.
After beginning the season with two consecutive defeats the Xolos were in need of points to leave their last place position and to also assist their coach who, with another loss, could face a tough time maintaining his position since the team could easily get back in the fight for relegation.
In the 10th minute Tijuana’s team showed they were eager to take a lead when midfielder Cristian Pellerano served a perfect pass to Dario Benedetto who sent a fierce strike into the net that the goalkeeper could not reach.
The team looked confident after taking the lead and for several minutes was close to scoring their second goal if not for goalie Nahuel Guzman who twice stopped Xolos forward Dayro Moreno from scoring.
The second save was spectacular as he tipped Moreno’s shot and the ball managed to hit the crossbar thanks to his quick reaction.
In the 24th minute the visiting team would benefit from a blunder mistake by the Xolos defense when defending a corner, instead of rejecting the ball from their area they gave it to their opponents who would seize their chance with a stunning goal from Juninho who easily overpower keeper Cirilo Saucedo with his precise shot.
After this goal the Xolos team fell apart in the remaining of the first half and Tigres created several dangerous plays that almost ended up in goals including a shot that also hit the post.
In the second half both teams made substitutions looking for the victory but the score did not move even though Benedetto missed a great opportunity after another intervention by Guzman, in the end the game ended 1-1.
The Xolos have started very weak in this new season since the have one point out of nine and need to improve a great deal to save their season. Even though it is early in the campaign the team cannot continue to lose points especially at home since they have a many difficulties winning on the road.
Club Tijuana’s coach Cesar Farias said that he confident that the result will improve as the season progresses.
