The 2011 Little League tournament season continues for District 42’s remaining allotment of teams after concluding play in this past week’s California Section 7 championship tournaments.

Champions from District 42 (South County), District 41 (East County), District 66 (East County/Southeast San Diego/National City) and District 22 (Imperial Valley) participated in the section  tournaments July 16-20. The eye on the prize was a trip to the Sub-Division III tournament: the next rung in Little League’s championship ladder.

Park View Little League (District 42) hosted the Little League 10-11 Division and Junior League Division Section 7 tournaments while Spring Valley Little League (District 66) hosted both the Little League 9-10 Division and Senior League Section 7 championship tournaments. Fletcher Hills (District 41) hosted the Little League 11-12 Section 7 tournament.

Of the five District 42 champions entered in this year’s Section 7 tournament, four won titles. Park View and Luckie Waller each grabbed two coveted banners.

10-11 Division
District 42 champion Park View advanced to Tuesday’s  championship game against District 66 champion Spring Valley after dealing its opening two opponents decisive setbacks — 17-7 against Spring Valley last Saturday and 13-1 against District 22 champion Calexico on Sunday.

Spring Valley forced a rematch against Park View by eliminating Calexico, 7-6, on Monday in the challenger bracket final. But the second meeting in the section tourney between the teams ended much the same way as the first: a 14-1 Park View rout.

11-12 Division
District 42 champion Park View advanced to Tuesday’s  championship game against District 41 champion Santana National after securing blowout wins in its first two games — 8-2 over Santana National last Saturday and 14-2 over District 22 champion Brawley on Sunday.

Santana National defeated Brawley, 1-0, on Monday to force a rematch against Park View. Again, Park View captured the rematch — this time 11-9.

Junior League
District 42 champion Luckie Waller advanced to Tuesday’s  championship game against District 66 champion Spring Valley after scoring victories over its opening two opponents — District 41 champion United Santee (7-1 last Saturday) and Spring Valley (8-7 on Sunday).

Spring Valley eliminated District 22 champion Brawley, 8-4, in Monday’s challenger bracket final.
Luckie Waller, however, had enough left at the end of the title game to prevail 9-8.

Senior League
District 42 champion Luckie Waller advanced to Tuesday’s  championship game against District 66 champion Twin Hills after scoring a clutch 11-8 win on Sunday to force a deciding third game in the teams’ best-of-three series. Twin Hills had edged Luckie Waller, 2-1, in the series opener last Saturday

Section champions now advance to Sub-Division III tournaments hosted by District 72/Corona National (Little League 9-10 Division), District 33/Chollas Lake (Little League 10-11 Division), District 62/Fountain Valley (Little League 11-12 Division), District 24/La Sierra (Junior League Division) and District 24/Reid Park (Senior League Division).

District 42 champion Eastlake finished 1-2 in the Section 7 Little League 9-10 Division tournament. The District 42 champions opened the tourney by defeating District 66 champion Twin Hills, 17-4, last Saturday but fell short in a 2-1 loss to District 41 champion Rancho San Diego on Sunday.

The loss to RSD dropped Eastlake to Monday’s challenger bracket final against Twin Hills, which enacted its revenge via a high-scoring 12-11 elimination victory.

RSD and Twin Hills met in Tuesday’s championship tilt. RSD claimed the section banner with a 17-3 win.

District 66
District 66 Little League serves parts of East County (Lemon Grove, Valley de Oro and Spring Valley), Southeast San Diego and the South Bay (National City and Paradise Hills).

Spring Valley defeated Twin Hills on July 9 to win the Little League 10-11 Division title and topped Lemon Grove to secure the Junior League Division championship on July 11.

Twin Hills defeated Spring Valley in the Senior League Division title game played July 9. Twin Hills also won this year’s District 66 Little League 9-10 Division title while Encanto won the Little League 11-12 Division championship.

Encanto went 0-2 at the Section 7 tournament with losses to Brawley (8-5 last Saturday) and 16-0 to Santana National on Sunday.

District 41
Rancho San Diego defeated Lakeside National, 13-3, to capture the District 41 Little League 9-10 Division title.

Santana National defeated Rancho San Diego, 10-8, to claim the District 41 Little League 10-11 Division title. Santana National went 0-2 at the Section 7 tourney with losses to Calexico (5-3 last Saturday) and Spring Valley (3-1 on Sunday).

Santana National defeated Rancho San Diego, 6-3 to win the District 41 Little League 11-12 Division title as well.

District 41 Junior League Division champion United Santee went 0-2 at the Section 7 tournament following losses to Luckie Waller last Saturday and Brawley (9-5 on Sunday).
