Second sentence

A second man who was with a gunman who shot and killed Jimmy Rodriguez Jr., 21, outside the BoBar Market on F Street near Broadway in Chula Vista in 2012 was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

David Chavoya, 20, of Chula Vista, was given 543 days of jail credits by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Theodore Weathers last month. Chavoya pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in May.

The gunman, Karim Josue Alvarez, 21, was sentenced July 26 to 52 years to life in prison. Alvarez was convicted June 5 by a jury of first-degree murder. Judge Edward Allard III imposed 25 years for the murder plus 25 years consecutively for using a gun in a homicide. He also got two more years for being free on bond on another crime when the shooting occurred.
