This year’s San Diego Multi-Event Championship meet is scheduled Saturday and Sunday at Cuyamaca College. The boys decathlon (10 events) starts at 9 a.m. both days while the girls heptathlon (seven events) starts at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The decathlon features five events on each day. The first day will highlight competition in the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 dash; the second day will highlight the 110 high hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 run.
The heptathlon features four events the first day and three events the second day. The opening day will highlight competition in the 100 low hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 dash; the final day will highlight the long jump, javelin and 800 run.
Meet director Lyle Barton expects 15 to 20 athletes to compete, including defending heptathlon champion Monique Van of Steele Canyon and Sweetwater's Spencer Curtis, the defending San Diego Section Division I champion in the boys high jump. Sweetwater also is expected to enter a team in the event.
High school-age athletes may register on site Saturday from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The event is sponsored by the San Diego Pole Vault Club in conjunction with Cuyamaca College. For more information, call Lyle Barton at 201-3811.
