The Otay Ranch High School girls water polo team will close out regular season play with Mesa League contests against Eastlake on Wednesday at the Southwestern College pool and Thursday against Mater Dei Catholic at the Loma Verde pool. It appears the Mustangs also will close out regular season play with no worse than a tie for the league championship after Wednesday’s 10-1 victory against Hilltop.
The win over the Lancers at the Loma Verde pool raised Otay Ranch’s record to 6-0 in league play, 17-2 overall.
The victory came on the heels of last Friday’s key 8-6 win over Bonita Vista at SWC that kept the Mustangs in sole possession of first place.
Bonita Vista is 4-2 in league play after recording a 13-4 victory against MDC on Wednesday.
Katie Sutterfield led Otay Ranch with five goals in Wednesday’s game while Fernanda Arambula and Gabby Nunez each scored two goals. Emma Cornwell was credited with 10 goalie saves.
Hilltop, which dropped to 0-7 in league play, 3-14 overall, received one goal from Marissa Atencio in Wednesday’s match while Jacqueline Zatarain was credited with three saves.
Heading into the final week of regular season play, Bonita Vista is 10-6 overall. Eastlake is 3-2 in league play, 6-11 overall; Mater Dei Catholic is 2-4 in league play, 3-12 overall.
