The San Diego Section basketball playoffs are just around the corner and a couple of small enrollment South County private schools look like they might make some major moves in post-season play.
The Ocean View Christian Academy girls basketball team improved to 6-0 in Sunset League play, 12-2 overall, after bounding past the Lutheran Knights by a score of 48-29 on Tuesday. Sabrina Johnson led the Patriots with 18 points and 20 rebounds while teammate Malia Naputi dropped in 11 points.
Johnson is averaging 15.4 points per game and 17.9 rebounds per game for San Diego Section Division IV leading Ocean View. The Patriots advanced to last season’s section Division V semifinals after making an appearance in the 2012 Division V championship game.
Meanwhile, the Lutheran boys hoops team topped Sunset League rival Ocean View, 65-25, on Tuesday to improve to 16-4 overall.
Mohammad Al-Asady led the Knights (5-0 in league play) with 22 points while Jordan Brown tacked on 12 points and James Watts dropped in 10 points to brace the victorious effort, the team’s sixth consecutive win.
Lutheran, which posted a 1-20 mark in 2012-13, has the top win-loss record among San Diego Section Division V teams this season.
Al-Asady leads the Knights with a 16.1 game scoring average.
