Earl Evans, 18, of National City, pleaded guilty Jan. 31 to residential burglary at a senior citizen's house in El Cajon in which he injured himself when he broke a window to get inside.

Evans faces up to a year in jail and will likely be placed on probation, said Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso.

The maximum sentence is six years in prison and El Cajon Superior Court Judge William McGrath set sentencing for March 2.

Evans broke into a home in the 600 block of W. Washington in El Cajon around 8:40 p.m. on Jan. 12. He cut his hands on the window he broke and left bloodstains where he entered. Grasso said he surprised a woman who was over the age of 65, but he immediately fled and did not hurt her.

The woman called El Cajon Police and an officer spotted a man discarding a red sweatshirt as he walked down the street. The victim said the intruder had a red jacket.

When the officer got out of her car, she found him hiding under a parked car. Evans had bloody cuts on his hands and she arrested him. Evans remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility on $50,000 bail.
