Multiple charges for murder suspect

A man already charged with trying to murder a woman on Paradise Valley Road in a carjacking attempt pleaded not guilty Nov. 25 to a new charge of robbery involving another woman.

Jesse Alan Gutierrez, 45, was originally arrested Oct. 26 by San Diego Police after a woman was stabbed in the neck in a struggle over her car keys. She had just parked her car on Paradise Valley Road, south of Woodman Street, around 5:30 a.m. and was walking to her workplace when she was attacked.

Gutierrez has previously pleaded not guilty in San Diego Superior Court to attempted murder and attempted carjacking in that incident. The prosecutor has declined to give any details about either case.

The new charge says the woman was robbed on Oct. 25, the day before the attempted carjacking. A preliminary hearing has been set for Feb. 3, 2014.

Jail records show that Gutierrez has another pending robbery case in Chula Vista Superior Court.

Although a judge set bail at $2 million, Gutierrez cannot be bailed out of jail because he is also being held on a parole violation without bail. Court records said he was convicted of two burglaries in 2008 and 2009.
