Coach Patrick Conahan’s Mira Costa Spartans handed the Southwestern Jaguars a home court loss Wednesday, 63-52, in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference men's basketball game.
Southwestern started the game with only eight players in uniform, two of whom fouled out. To make personnel matters worse, star sophomore Hasan Farah was part of a double technical foul for a mutual shoving and jawing match with a Spartan.
Farah’s comments to the official who called the technicals merited Farah another technical and an automatic ejection. The ejection will hurt the Jaguars even more this Friday because an ejection carries a mandatory suspension for one game. This Friday’s contest would have been sophomore Farah’s last as a Jaguar. Coach John Cosentino will have only seven players in uniform for the season finale against Cuyamaca.
Southwestern scored only three points in the first 10 minutes with the taller Spartans completely dominating the boards. The Jaguars mounted a spirited offense in the closing 10 minutes of the half, bringing them to within eight points at 31-23.
Hasan finished with 13 points while Jay Stone added 10. Southwestern’s record now stands at 8-16.
Mira Costa was led by Batiste Boucharel with 17 points and Dominique Moreno with 16. Mira Costa’s record is now 17-9.
