June sentence for mom

A drunken mother who crashed a stolen van that carried her two children in National City will be sentenced June 11 after pleading guilty to child endangerment, car theft and drunk driving with injury.

Erica Marie Braswell, 26, appeared Monday before a Chula Vista Superior Court judge for sentencing, but it was postponed to June 11.

Deputy District Attorney Mary Loeb said Braswell has agreed to accept a one-year jail term and she will not be sent to prison. She may be placed on probation with certain conditions.

The incident took place April 3 around 12:35 a.m. when a National City Police officer noticed the stolen Dodge van in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy. She drove about one mile on East Plaza Boulevard before she crashed.

Her children, ages 5 and 6, were taken to Rady Children’s Hospital with minor injuries and later were taken to the Polinsky Children’s Center.

She remains in the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility on $25,000 bail.
