‘Homicide’ was phoned in

A caller who prank-dialed the Chula Vista Police Department in March and told them he killed his fiancée, now has a warrant for his arrest.

“The guy did some fraud in Jamaica, which is what he’s in custody for and we were able to tie him to fraud here,” Chula Vista Police Capt. Gary Wedge said.

The number Shaw called from on March 17 showed up as a landline registered to Chris Bhoorasingh and Jenny Thomas in the 2500 block of Garnet Peak Road in Eastlake.

Just before 3 p.m., 40 to 50 police officers responded to what they thought was a potential homicide in an Eastlake condominium.

When police arrived on scene they discovered that Bhoorasingh and Thomas were at work during the time of the call.

Authorities said the caller claimed he murdered his then fiancée, then threatened to kill himself.

Wedge said Shaw used a special phone application to make it look like he was calling from their home.
