Girls water polo: Mustangs open strong in East County Invitational

Otay Ranch defeated Santa Fe Christian, 7-6, and Clairemont, 17-2, to open play in the East County Invitational. Sarah Medina led the Mustangs with three goals and eight steals in the win over SFC while Kelsey Eaton had seven goals and five steals in the win against Clairemont while also making five steals. Audrey Py had two goals and two steals against Clairemont. Bri Patricio had seven goalie saves against SFC and eight against Clairemont.

Eaton had two goals and two steals against SFC while Sara Gagarin had one goal and one steal and Audrey Py scored one goal.

Py had three goals in the win over Clairemont while adding two steals and one assist. Tricia Ferrer had two goals while Mariela Rodriguez had one goal and two assists. Tori Kelly and Medina had one goal and two steals as well while Cailin Lechner and Laryssa Lucatero each had one goal.

The East County Invitational concludes with championship playoffs and finals on Saturday, Jan. 22.

The Mustangs (10-2 overall) defeated Eastlake, 9-4, to open Mesa Leauge play on Jan. 6. Py and Eaton each scored three goals in that game.
