Twelve South County teams qualified for this year’s San Diego Section divisional playoffs. Three — Eastlake (Division I), Bonita Vista (Division II) and Mater Dei Catholic (Division IV) — were the sole survivors after the opening round. Only Eastlake survived to play again after last weekend’s quarterfinals.

Eastlake, seeded sixth, upset the third-seeded Westview Wolverines, 3-1, this past Saturday to advance to Wednesday’s semifinals against No. 2 seed Poway. The victory against the Wolverines was the seventh in a row for coach Erwin Macalaguim’s Titans. Eastlake swept 11th-seeded San Pasqual, 3-0, in the opening round of the playoffs on Nov. 7, winning by scores of 25-10, 25-12, 25-21.

The home court victory propelled the Titans to the road match at Westview. Eastlake promptly won the opening two games 25-22, 25-20 before the Wolverines got on the scoreboard with a 26-24 win. The visitors closed out the CIF match-up by capturing the fourth game 25-21.

Eastlake carried a 27-9 overall record into Wednesday’s semifinals. Poway, which eliminated 15th-seeded Granite Hills and seventh-seeded Fallbrook in its opening two playoff matches, improved to 25-9 after emerging with a 3-0 sweep in Wednesday’s semifinal tilt. Poway, which advances to Saturday’s division final at Cathedral Catholic against top-seeded Torrey Pines, won by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 28-26.

Blair Ehrlich led Poway with 17 kills while teammate McKenzie Hall had nine kills. Hall also tallied five blocks while Ehrlich had two aces. Kendall Sieber had four blocks while Kelsey Horvath had two aces.

Kills leaders for Eastlake included Lauren Gomez (eight), Elima Ahzi (seven), Alexa Vargas (six) and Breanna Barksdale (six). Blocks leaders included Barksdale (nine) and Ahzi (four) while Chelsea Speaks had two aces.

Bonita Vista and Mater Dei Catholic both ended their seasons last Friday. Bonita Vista (20-12) dropped a 3-0 match-up at fourth-seeded Rancho Bernardo (12-15) while top-seeded Francis Parker eliminated Mater Dei 3-0.

RB won by scores of 25-16, 26-24, 25-20. Three Broncos recorded double-digit kills: Victoria McIntyre (16), Denise Meier (14) and Lawe Huddleston (11). Also for the victors, Ashley Moore had 45 assists while Huddleston had 21 digs, Yvette Cho had 17 digs and Moore contributed 12 digs.

Francis Parker defeated MDC (12-18) by scores of 25-14, 25-12, 25-21. The Lancers (30-2) defeated third-seeded La Jolla Country Day, 3-0, on Wednesday to advance to Saturday’s division championship game against second-seeded Santa Fe Christian (17-11).
