World class riffs on a bayfront stage are on tap at Saturday’s annual National City Bayfront Concert at Pepper Park. Free to the public, classic rock and oldies bands Street Heart and The Fabulous Pelicans will provide one of the most rockin’ family friendly events of the season from 2 to 6 p.m.
The Fabulous Pelicans are comprised of some of San Diego’s best local artists such as Caroline Martin on vocals and Greg Douglass on lead guitar. Caroline sang on MTV, “Entertainment Tonight” and “PM Magazine” as well as countless clubs in Las Vegas, Miami Beach and New York City. Her smoky voice tends to light up the stage as Douglass pumps up the tunes.
Douglass was the lead guitarist for The Steve Miller Band at the peak of that band’s popularity and has five platinum records to his name. He has played with stars such as Van Morrison, the Doobie Brothers and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Street Heart has been in San Diego for the past 14 years playing classic rock on some of California’s finest stages. Since 1987, Street Heart’s vocally driven classic rock variety show has been featured regularly at major venues and events.
After dancing a jig to classic oldies, attendees can enjoy delicious Mexican fare from El Juan Mexican Restaurant of National City. Miss National City and her court will be selling beverages and tasty treats. The National City Community Services Department will host children’s activities during the concert.
The event is made possible with the financial support of the Unified Port District of San Diego, city of National City Community Services Department, El Juan Mexican Restaurant and the Walrus 105.7 FM. For more information, visit the Web site at www.nationalcityca.gov or call 336-4290.
